What’s new…….

2008 got off to a great start with various new projects starting at the Hope Centre. The Centre’s Training Co-ordinator, Kate Bellamy, tells us more…..

I am really excited about what is happening at the Hope Centre. We have started a new Outdoor Skills Project with the Wildlife Trust, generously funded by the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales who gave us a grant of £26,758. Each Thursday we take a group of our people to the Lings Environmental Centre to assist them with any projects they need help with - this may include gardening, litter picking and pond clearing. The aim is to build self esteem, self confidence and practical skills.

We are also really excited about working alongside Barclaycard in a pilot project whereby several enthusiastic Barclaycard employees act as mentors to our service users. TNG have provided the training to equip the mentors to undertake the task. This means that our service users get one-to-one support to help them to reach specific goals, for example – to get onto a college course or to work towards finding employment, or even to just get involved in more activities.

Other activities including working with Northampton College, Job Centre Plus, Neighbourhood Learning and other volunteers who give their time to running various activities such as Art mornings, Guitar lessons, Computer courses, Cookery workshops……..

Hope Centre goes Mexican for the day!

The Hope Centre decided to have a Mexican Day on Thursday 20th September, just for fun! Barclaycard very kindly sponsored it and provided all the entertainment also. The morning was full of fun and games - including table football competitions, a quiz and much more! The kitchen staff and volunteers made a delicious Mexican lunch...enchiladas, burritos, nachos...the day was a great success! Thank you Barclaycard!
